Tuesday 13th June 2023 - TX/OK Panhandles - (Enhanced Risk)

We started today in Garden City with a firm target of Boise City to start. The SPC had put down a 5% Risk for Tornadoes and things looked very good indeed with a lovely first look at a Classic Supercell sitting west of Boise City, we were one of the first chasers on this storm and watched as it started to drift SE into the Oklahoma Panhandle very slowly at first. We took some decent sized hail and it wasnt long before the storm became Tornado Warned, once along Highway 385 south of Boise City a clear slot was visible and wrapping rain curtains were noted and then a brief 2 minute Tornado was spotted west of the road near Keyes. Finally the first Tornado for Tour 4 and this storm was just getting started. We continued to track the storm SE and unfortunately we missed the next Tornado due to taking some dirt roads near Dalhart which we had to double back on. After getting back on paved roads we intercepted the storm again near Cactus and did well to avoid some very large hail. Some stones were being reported as 5.5 inches now so I was thankful we were in avoidance mode for these huge ice missiles being ejected from this storm. By now the storm was motoring along at 50mph so it was hard to keep up, we plotted a course for Childress but ultimately we could never get back in front of the storm.
